School Important Dates for students with negative term decision

  • Online registration – Monday, 20 January – 14 February 2025  
  • Deadline of applications to be submitted for Senate concessionary examination as per GR23(b) – Friday, 17 January 2025
  • Deadline for the submission of exclusion appeals online from Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma and Honours students – Wednesday, 15 January 2025
  • CAECOM meeting – Friday, 31 January 2025   
  • AEACOM meeting5 and 6 February 2025
  • First semester and Lectures commence – Monday, 10 February 2025
  • Final date for minimum fee payment required for registration – Friday, 7 February 2025 
  • Final date for semester 1 registration – Friday, 14 February 2025
  • Final date for curriculum changes – Friday, 14 February 2025   

You will have received a letter notifying you of your negative term decision from the College office. This letter will provide details of virtual curriculum advice for you to attend. These will be hosted on specified dates during January and February 2025  by an academic team from the School in which you are registered. During these sessions you will be able to ask questions about your module selections for the year to come, given your negative term decision. You are strongly advised to participate in one of the following sessions with your school before commencing with your registration.

Part B - Learning Enhancement Checklist-revised (LECr) Administration & Feedback

Explanation of the LECr process:  The College of Law and Management (CLMS) Student Support Services is committed to providing you with the support you require to get back to good academic standing. The process of completing the online Learning Enhancement Checklist-revised (LECr) will assist you in identifying obstacles to your academic progress by reflecting on key issues. Choose a private time in your schedule when you can focus on the questions. After completing the LEC, you can use your report to plan a way forward for your success. You are expected to join an online LEC feedback group session with a Student Counsellor who will assist you with your action plan (see details below).

It is necessary for all students who are academically at risk to complete the LEC and attend the online feedback sessions

How do you do it?

  • Start the assessment using the following link:  click here
  • Once completed save the LEC report by emailing it to yourself or saving it on a USB.
  • Download the booklet “Unlocking the door to academic success,” which will assist you in identifying the University-based resources that may assist you on your road to success.
  • Take part in an online group feedback session.

College of Law and Management Studies LECR Group Feedback Sessions 2025

After completion of the LECR, CLMS students are expected to attend an LECR group feedback session.  This session will guide you with formulating your action plan for the semester.  The booklet “Unlocking the doors to academic success” is required for the session. The booklet will be available after you have completed the LECR.

You may attend face to face sessions as well.  There will be a maximum of 25 students per online group on a first-come-first-served basis.  The session duration will be a minimum of half an hour and will not surpass an hour.     

Part C - Registration Process

Your letter will also provide you with the following link to start your registration process once you have attended a curriculum advice session: https://academicsupport.ukzn.ac.za. This link will take you through the following mandatory steps and processes:

Step 1 Academic Monitoring and Support Advice

You will view a generic academic monitoring and support video and PowerPoint presentation. Attendance at the end of the recording is confirmed to enable you to proceed.

Step 2 Complete College-specific Learning Enhancement Checklist (LEC)

You are given the choice to complete the Learning Enhancement checklist (LEC) NOW, before proceeding, or LATER, after registration but no later than 17 February 2025.  Those who select NOW are taken to the LEC test site and upon completion of the assessment, will be routed back to Step 3. Those who select LATER, agree to meet the deadline and then proceed to Step 3.  It is recommended that you complete the LEC as soon as possible and attend a group feedback session which begins on 20  January 2025 and ends on 17 February 2025. 

 

STEP 3 Module Selection

Here you will select modules for the semester(s) ahead. Once you select modules, a notice is sent to your School for evaluation and approval. If the School declines your module choice, you will receive an email giving you the appropriate advice. You will also be able to message the School with any queries /comments you have during this process. This communication and selection process will continue until the School approves of your selected modules.

Once your module selection has been approved, you will read an agreement of understanding and must accept the terms before being allowed to continue.

Step 4 Final Stage of Registration

Once you have selected the correct modules and accepted the terms of the agreement, the College office will guide you through the remainder of your registration process. This is where they will ask you for any outstanding documents and check your financial clearance.
